Visiting & Getting Here
The Fahrlechhütte is located at 1,680 metres, right by Lake Duisitzkarsee, and can only be reached on foot. To help you plan your hike, we’ve put together the most important information about getting here.
The classic ascent starts at Eschachalm in Obertal near Schladming. From there, a hiking trail leads up to Lake Duisitzkarsee and directly to the Fahrlechhütte.
Allow around 75 minutes for the direct ascent from Eschachalm. The route covers approximately 480 metres of elevation gain.
No. The Fahrlechhütte cannot be reached directly by car. The final section up to Lake Duisitzkarsee has to be covered on foot.
On request, it may be possible to ride up with the hut hosts.
In addition to the classic hiking trail, a forest road also leads towards Lake Duisitzkarsee. It is longer, but less steep.
Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the trail from Eschachalm to Lake Duisitzkarsee.
The classic ascent to Lake Duisitzkarsee is a popular mountain hike. As with any hike in the mountains, you should take your fitness level, the weather and appropriate equipment into account.

Yes. The hut offers a total of 16 simple sleeping places in the dormitory.

Yes. Various hiking trails continue from the Fahrlechhütte through the Schladminger Tauern, including routes towards Neualm, Keinprechthütte and the Giglach Lakes.

The Fahrlechhütte is open during the summer season. You can find our current opening hours directly on our website.
Yes. We serve freshly cooked, hearty Alpine dishes and homemade specialities. Many of our ingredients and products come from our own farm. All dishes can be prepared gluten-free on request, and we also offer a selection of vegan dishes.
Yes. Alongside our classic Alpine dishes, we also offer vegan options.

Of course. You’re always welcome to stop by for a coffee, a drink or simply a short break.
For a regular visit, a reservation is usually not necessary. For larger groups, however, we recommend contacting us in advance.
